I just purchased a USB to CI-V interface cable from KAWAMALL for use with my ICOM IC-706MKiiG. The cable works perfectly on one of my PC's running XP but will not work on my PC running Vista 64bit home edition. I really need to use the PC running Vista.
I let windows look for the proper drivers online and it pointed me to the Prolific web site. I downloaded and installed the 64bit driver. When I plug in the cable I get the following error in Device Manager: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31).
This is exactly what KAWAMALL tech support told me to do. I wonder if anyone might have any ideas?

I had the same problem with the Prolific device and 64 bit vista. Had to use the laptop with windows XP to use the device.

My problem has been solved!
I found another driver for the serial to USB cable and it appears to be working perfectly. Here is a link to the driver: http://www.usglobals...win_drivers.zip
Note: This driver does NOT work when using Ham radio Deluxe! When this driver is used with HRD I receive the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) anywhere from several minutes to several hours after starting HRD.

I had been struggling to install another KawaMall USB-to-Serial adapter (for a Yaesu Vx7r) under Vista-32 with the generic Prolific Driver also.
I just stumbled on this posting using Google.
Using this link worked perfectly.
I just subscribed to the forum to post a huge THANK YOU! for the posting.

Glad to hear that your USB-to-Serial adapter is working for you! I have since run into trouble. I am trying to run Ham Radio Deluxe which is one impressive package! My PC will run anywhere from 5 minutes to several hours with this driver I found for the adapter before crashing into the BSOD. So, I am still trying to resolve this problem without having to spend a fortune for another adapter. For now I have to manually input the frequency and mode into HRD until I can get this problem resolved.

UPDATE: I have discovered after adjusting the buffers for the USB comm port, that the cable appears to be working properly with HRD!! I adjusted the Receive Buffer to a setting of 8. The default is 14. I adjusted the Transmit Buffer to 10. It's default is 16.
Just thought I would pass this along!

Prolific drivers are not stable and do a lot of problems. Interfaces based on FTDI devices wich much better than prolific. My set-up is: IC756PRO3 with HRD ver 5 build 2893 include DM780 on AMD based computer. Interface: UnicomDual (FTDI).
