In Topic: Need Help Identifying Equipment - Kenwood Amp

20 May 2012 - 10:59 PM

Hiya :D

After looking at your photographs it would appear that you may have a VHF or UHF base station or repeater.

Although at least the PSU section seems to be Kenwood, some of the other section look bespoke, or perhaps from unknown manufacturers.

Although the images aren't too clear, the rear view of the cabinet shows what looks like either VHF or UHF cavity filters (top of the cabinet, cylindrical objects).

Also, the cabinet itself says Motorola, so may this entire unit was cobbled together from other units, or perhaps has been modified or repaired over time.

If you take a look here: http://www.myradioco...on-details.aspx you can see another Kenwood trunking repeater, and if you take a real close look at the PSU section (with its large cooling fan), and what looks like maybe a repeater logic unit (above the PSU), they both have a striking resemblance to section of your item.

It could also be that your unit was made up from a assortment of surplus units, maybe to act as a 2m or 70cm Ham Radio repeater or some such.

Hope the info helps ;)

Hiya Tom, and welcome to the forum :D

You sound very much like myself, I also like QRP, antennas and Morse Code too.

In Topic: 2-Meter Basestation?

13 May 2012 - 10:05 PM

I've seen a few base station 2m radios, but they all tend to use 12 Volts DC :(

You can still get some good second hand ones, such as the Yaesu FT220, FT221, FT225RD, FT726 & FT736etc.

Kenwood had their TS-700.

I would have said the Kenwood TS790, but it runs on 12 Volts DC...

Some of the older base stations have quite a bit of room in them, so you could try one of those and retro fit a modern switch mode PSU within the radio case... Just a thought.

I'd say have a look around eBay and the like and see what second hand units are out there. If you need CTCSS capability you could retro fit a CTCSS encoder (loads around in kit form).

I'm surprised no one makes a base station rig (AC powered), as I bet there is still a market for such items... The second hand ones seems to sell readily enough.

Hello Mark,
I would appreciate receiving the link to dawnload also that Manual .I have bougt one used Ten Tec 1253, that is working unestable.I found the shematic in the Internet, but I am decided to change the main elements for new ones.I have read that in the Manual are precise instructions to do the things right well.
Coil L10 is missing.R6 pot seems not working right, and I have more doubts about IC1 and IC2.

Hiya Ricki :P

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for taking the time to join up with us. We could do with a few more 'Brits' on the site!

Nice to hear that you're into home brew equipment and accessories, I'm no stranger to a soldering iron myself. I'm still trying to find the best way to 'squeeze' all of the HF bands in to my pint-sized back yard ^_^
