New to forum and amateur radio

Hi. My name is Ken. I am in the High Desert area of Southern California, and I'm just getting into amateur radio. I have been looking at various hanhelds (I mainly plan to keep it in a Go bag for use in offroad situations. I have found that you can't always make contact with CB.) In particular, I have been looking at the Yaesu 60R or the 250R. Is there an advantage to having a dual band radio? Any info., including better handhelds for about the same cost, would be greatly appreciated.
